The scholarship luncheon is named for Bro. William Nickerson Jr. a charter member of the Phi Beta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Nickerson was a prominent Los Angeles-based businessman and founder of Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company, which at one time was the largest black-owned business west of the Mississippi.

The 5th Annual Dymally International Jazz & Arts Festival will feature Headliner Angelique Kidjo, jazz legends Stanley Clarke, Jonathan Bulter, New Wave jazz artists Judith Hill and Teodross Avery, and this year's Ole School legends, reggae Superstars, Third World.

The proceeds of this annual event benefit university programs such as the CSUDH Presidential Scholars, The Dymally Fellows Program and the African American Leadership Training Summit.
